Matilda had a string of short marriages to widowed men starting with Joseph Farwell whom she married as Matilda Reed of East Sudbury (now, Wayland) in 1827. After the third of these husbands, Isaiah Prescott, died in 1838, she does not appear to be mentioned again in the Concord records, so no age at death has been found. Outside of these three marriages, her identity is unknown. There is no appearance of a Reed family living in East Sudbury that had a wife or child named Matilda. While it might be expected that Matilda is a widow, no appropriate widow is obvious. Possibly the best candidate is Matilda Reed, d/o Peter Reed and Matilda Tuttle of Littleton, b. 1788. This would make her younger than her husbands, but in 1827, old enough that she would be likely to marry a widower. There doesn't appear to be any obvious mention of a her in either Source:Reed, Jacob Whittemore. History of the Reed Family in Europe and America or Source:Reed, John Ludovicus. Reed Genealogy. |
