1874 May 6 Cheltenham Police Court - A narrow escape Jonathan Scarratt and Matilda Scarratt were charged with stealing from Maldon Court a number of empty bottles, value 6s, the property of Mrs. Champion etc. No charges. [Jonathan prob. her brother-in-law.]

1874 6th May CHELTENHAM EXAMINER page 8 (Glyn Hatherall) Jonathan and MATILDA SCARRETT in magistrates' court, Cheltenham. Matilda had gone to Maldon Court Selling something. The foot man said they did not want anything but asked if she bought bottles to which she assented. She returned the following day with one of her daughters, with cart and pram. There were 71 bottles, as she was giving the foot man the money 2s 2d he saw his mistress coming and pushed it back to her. The case was dismissed with a warning about buying anything from servants.

1882 4th November The Bristol Mercury and Daily Post (Issue 10757)(Saturday) Police, Friday ? Moses Scarrott, MATILDA SCARROTT, and Chas. Loveridge were charged with stealing twelve fowls, value 30s from Violet Bank, Macaulay?s-buildings, the property of George Oxenham. The birds were stolen from the fowl-house of the prosecutor on Wednesday night and the next day Supt. Berry found eight of them in a basket in possession of the female prisoner in Avon-street, and the others not far off. The prisoners were remanded until Tuesday.

1882 8th November The Bristol Mercury and Daily Post (Issue 10760)(Wednesday) City Police, Yesterday, - Moses Scarrott of Avon-street, and Charles Loveridge, of Little Corn-street, were charged on remand with stealing twelve fowls, from Macaulay-buildings, the property of George Oxenham, and MATILDA SCARROTT, of Avon-street, was charged with receiving the same knowing them to have been stolen. Each prisoner pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to three months? hard labour.

1883 16th January Matilda used the name Vaughin on Albert Henry?s birth certificate she was in Shepton Mallet prison serving her sentence for the above crime.
