- ↑ "Matilda Cogen, daughter of Daniel and Anna Cogen, was born in Tuscarawascounty, Ohio, June 23, 1843, and died at her home in Montpelier, Jun 2,1903, aged 59 years, 11 months and 9 days. In 1852, she came with herparents to Steuben county, Indiana, where she grew to young womanhoodand spent the greater portion of her life, having come to Montpelier inAugust, 1881, where she has since resided. On November 22, 1863, shewas united in marriage to Caleb Clark, who had preceded her to thebetter world about six weeks before, on April the 20th. To this unionwere born four daughters, two of whom died in early childhood. The twosurviving ones are Mrs. Cora Forest and Miss Edna Clark. Mrs. Clark wasone of a family of six children, only two of whom are now living, Mrs.Mary A. Teeters, of Hudson, Indiana, and Mrs. Sarah Willington, of NewLondon, Iowa. Those going before were John Cogen, who died near Metz,Indiana, in 1880; Mrs. Elizabeth Shipe, who died near Hudson, Indiana,in 18?5, and Allen Cogen, who expired in Steubenville, Indiana, in 1902.Mrs. Clark was a loving wife and ideal mother, always ready tosacrifice for those who were dear to her. She had an attractive andwinning manner, making a friend in all who knew her. She bore her longillness with marvelous patience and cheerfulness, always hopeful andlooking on the bright side. Her loss leaves a vacancy that can never befilled, but to our sorrow comes the consoling thought that she is atrest and safe."
