[edit] Revolutionary War Pension InformationInformation from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 5, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. : Stephens, Mashock, born 1756 in Caswell County, North Carolina; entered service 1778 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia where he resided, in Virginia company; moved in 1784 to Burke County, North Carolina for 1.5 years, thence to Pendleton District, South Carolina, for abt. 8 years, thence to Hawkins County, Tennessee, where entered service in 1794 as Indian Spy to fight Indians; moved in 1795 to Knox County, Kentucky where again entered service against Indians; moved in 1798 to Warren County, Tennessee, for 2 years, thence to Knox County, Tennessee for 3 years, thence to Anderson County, Tennessee, thence to Overton County, Tennessee for 3 years, thence to Roane County, Tennessee for 5 years, then to Marion County, Tennessee, where granted Pension in 1832; died 4/27/1834; married in 1780 to Milly Farrar/Forer, Pittsylvania County, Virginia; widow died intestate 6/9/1837 in Morgan County, Tennessee, leaving children: Henry W., Nancy Farmer, Mashock, Betsy Pearson, Louisa Sammons & Shadrick; son Shadrick applied for Pension in 1839 there as administrator of mother's estate for self & siblings & said his mother resided with him when she died; children's Pension Application Rejected, insufficient proof of marriage of mother to soldier; Sally Stephens, wife of soldier's deceased brother Thomas, made affidavit then in Fentress County, Tennessee, that she was born 3/12/1756 & resided in same neighborhood of soldier & wife when they married.
