    Mary Gayle James passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the age of 93 in Lexington.

    Born Feb. 4, 1921, in Kenton, Ohio, to the late Glenn and Nettie Woodard, she married Colonel Robert B. James Sr. of Kenton. Together with their son, they traveled the United States and the world as an Air Force family.

    Upon his retirement from the Air Force they returned to Kenton where they operated the Carpet Nook for a number of years. While in Kenton she was active in the Hardin County Republican Party, the Hardin County Republican Women as well as the Ohio Republican Women and served for 40 years as the Republican precinct committeewoman for Kenton precinct 2A. She loved history and was an avid Ohio State sports fan. She moved to Virginia in December 2013 to be closer to family. She is predeceased by her husband who died in 2002, a sister Margaret Brown and brother Lauren Woodard.

    She is survived by one son, Colonel Robert B. James Jr. and his wife Cathy (Forster) of Lexington; two grandchildren, Heather (Steve) Finney of Ashburn and Robert, III (Christine) James of Falls Church. She was the great-grandmother to Shea and Aidan Finney of Ashburn. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Harrison Funeral Home. Mary Gayle will be buried next to her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.

    The family requests that memorials be made to the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, P.O. Box 33624, WPAFB, OH 45433.
