Facts and Events
When Mary Ann came to Australia with her parents. It is told by her descendants that she was a poor traveller and was sick for most of the voyage of 5 months and 5 days and was carried ashore by her father at Morton Bay 27 April 1853. When Edward died Mary Ann married Bert Evans and moved to Kooroongarra with her daughter Annie to live with Bert. She lived with them for just over a year when she contacted influenza and died 26 December 1916 aged 74 years. The Millmerran Church of England Minister was contacted but he refused to come and bury her saying that it would involve a 40 mile round trip on horseback and that his duty was to the living not the dead. This naturally caused a lot of ill feeling and her son-in-law Bert made a coffin loaded it into his spring cart and took her body the 20 miles to Millmerran where she was buried with her husband Edward.
