Mary Brown Usher was born on 26th December 1801 and baptised when she was fifteen months old in the parish of St George in the East in Middlesex, in the inner eastern suburbs of London. She was the daughter of a mariner called William Usher and his wife Susannah, and the family lived on Worcester Street at the time of her baptism.
On 8th February 1826, aged 24, she married John Vincent Cassanet, who worked as an agent and broker. They married at Hackney, a couple of miles north-east of London. After their marriage they lived for a time in neighbouring Bethnal Green, where they had two daughters: Frances Ann in 1827 and Mary Frederica in 1830.
The 1841 census finds Mary, John and their daughter Frances (Fanny) living on Prospect Place in Hackney.
Mary died in 1846 in St George in the East, aged 44. John survived her by 36 years.
