Marriage to Thomas Meakins

Mary’s maiden name and origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1796, by which time she was married to a Thomas Meakins and living at Woburn in Bedfordshire. Mary and Thomas had two daughters baptised at Woburn: Susan in 1796 and Fanny in 1800.

Thomas died in March 1801, aged 38.

Mary survived him. There were two widows called Mary Meakins living in Woburn after 1803, and it has not been possible to establish which is which in later records. It seems that one of them died in 1806, being buried at Woburn on 26th November 1806. The other married a Joseph Negus of Bedford at Woburn on 9th October 1804, and was quite likely the Mary Negus buried at Woburn on 16th April 1811.
