Mary’s maiden name and origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1739, by which time she was married to Joseph Clark (also known as Joseph Lewis) and living at Lydiard Millicent in Wiltshire. She was quite likely already married to him prior to 1737, when his first child was baptised there, although the 1737 does not name the mother.

Mary and Joseph appear to have had seven children baptised at Lydiard Millicent between 1737 and 1753, although one died when only three years old in 1754.

Neither Mary nor Joseph has been traced after 1754.
