  3. MRS. MARY E. BIRCH

Mary E. Stanley was born in the state of Tennessee Dec. 4 27th, 1840. She came to Dade County some time previous to the Civil War, and since that time remained a resident of the County.

She was married to Wm. Birch on March 31st, 1858, who preceded her many years, having died during his service in the Civil War, Feb. 20, 1862. Two children were born to them, one now Mrs. James H. Bell of Greenfield and Mrs. 41 Nancy Ray, who with three brothers and three sisters and numerous other relatives and friends remain to mourn.

In early life she accepted Christ and so had lived long and faithfully in His service. She was a member of Greenfield Christian Church.

.She departed this life on Monday, January 17th, at the ~ home of her daughter, Mrs. James H. Bell, with whom she had lived for some 34 years. She was in her 76th year, and had been a sufferer for many months, and it is indeed a comfort to know that she is at rest.

The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, E. O. Sweaney, from the Bell home, where a large crowd of relatives had gathered to pay final tribute to her memory. The text used was 2nd Tim. 4:7 and 8. Music was furnished by the choir of the Christian Church.

The body in which Sister Birch had dwelt among us was then taken to the beautiful Greenfield cemetery, where it was carefully laid away.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stanley of Aurora, Mr. and Mrs. Logan Stanley of Carthage, Mrs. Gray and daughter and Mrs. Birch and her daughter of Lockwood, and Mr. Clyde Birch of near Dadeville.
