JONATHAN HARRISON STANLEY was born on November 28, 1818 in Grainger County, Tennessee. He moved with his family to Dade County, Missouri in about 1849.
Jonathan was a farmer.
Jonathan married MARY JANE VANDERGRIFTH, about 1837 in Eastern Tennessee.

Jonathan Stanley served in the Civil War in the Union Army. He served as a private in Company E, 76th Provisional Regiment Provisional Enrolled Militia Infantry. He was mustered in on August 20, 1862. He was mustered out of service on March 31, 1863. He was appointed as wagonmaster on January 26, 1863.
