In Farina, Ill., Dec. 7, 1885, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brown, the daughter of Daniel G. and Asenath Smith. She was born in Berlin, N. Y., Sept., 6, 1839. When she was about seventeen years old, she obtained a hope in Christ as her Saviour, and was baptized and joined the Seventh-day Baptist Church of Berlin. Rev. L. C. Rogers was the pastor of the church at that time, who baptized her. Later in life, she moved to Albion, Wis., and joined the church there. She was married to Mr. K. B. Coon, who went into the army and died at Memphis, Tenn., in 1864. About twelve years ago she was married to Mr. Alonzo G. Brown, of Farina. About ten years ago, she joined the church here, of which she has been an honored member till the day of her death. She was active in Christian work while she had her health, but about five years ago, that “fell destroyer” of the physical frame, consumption, laid hold upon her, and she has been confined to her home since that, most of the time. She said she was ready to go or willing to stay, as the Master should direct. Hers was an exceptionally consistent Christian life. May God grant that her mantle may fall on someone in our midst who may become valiant in the service of the Lord.
