- ↑ Source:Manning, William H. Genealogical and Biographical History of the Manning Families of New England and Descendants, p. 796, identifies Mary as "dau. of Joseph Smith, in whose family William Manning, junior, was reared." This is somewhat problematical, in that William wasn't Mary's son, but the son of William's first wife Sarah... Manning then says she married (2) Caleb Kimball (which is shown to be true by Caleb's probate), and m. (3) Joseph Pillsbury of Newbury (who had a widow named Mary, but otherwise no evidence has yet been found). Source:Hammatt, Abraham. Early Inhabitants of Ipswich, Mass. : Part One, p. 335, identifies her as the daughter of Samuel and Martha Smith, whose birth is recorded in Ipswich 26 Oct 1684, but offers no justification and doesn't list her subsequent marriage(s). Samuel Smith apparently has no probate file. So this has yet to be confirmed.
