Mary Sinfield’s origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 4th May 1788, when she married an agricultural labourer called William Meakins at Woburn in Bedfordshire. They went on to have a daughter called Sarah in 1789 and a son called Thomas in 1798.

Mary died in September 1799. Her burial record does not give her age. They had been married for eleven years. William survived her by 53 years.
