Looking for the parents of Adam Shipley b. 1759 m Rachel Frost, Martin Henry b. abt 1755 m. Ruth Howard, Mary Ann b. 1767 m. Hanson Hobbs, Benjamin b. 1751 m. Agnes Short/Amelia Webster. It has been suggested, in a book ( the history of the Shipley Family by Benedict Shipley, 1895 ) that the FATHER of these Shipley children was RICHARD SHIPLEY. Richard supposedly, originally from England, immigrated to Baltimore, Hagerstown ( Martin Henry born here ), then to ELLICOTT MILLS about 1774. RICHARD 1730-1787, it is said, served in the Rev. War, 1776, as an ensign in the 4th company, Baltimore county, Maryland militia. If he served in 1776, then he would have been about 46 years old. I have not been able to find him, as of yet, in the archives ( NARA ) nor in the MD Archives as serving. Now, it may be because he served in the MILITIA as a volunteer. Richard is said to have married first a Christine d. 1773.

I, too, am a descendant of Hanson Hobbs 1765-1854 (Leonard 1736-John 1712-John 1686). Their daughter Mary Ann married George P. Jackson and are buried in Knox Co. Ohio. Betty N. niederb@@pionet.net
