Mary Ann Shinholster was born in 1822 in Georgia. She and her husband Edmund E. Etheridge both died in Hays County, Texas where they had gone to live with their son George R. We have papers from the county historical society showing that they were members of the Wilkinson County, Georgia, Liberty Missionary Baptist Church.

Looking for the parents of Mary Ann Shinholster, I found a likely family in the Wilkinson County Georgia census in 1850. Father is not listed (perhaps he is deceased). The head of the household is Mary Shinholster, age 42. Children are James, age 24, Mary I (or possibly A) age 23 which would make her the right age: Martha 15, Samuel 17, Elizabeth 12, Harriet 10 and Mary H, 6. I recently found one source online that lists her father as William J. Shinholster who died between 1843 and 1850 and her mother as Mary Hall born in Georgia in 1808. Another daughter Elizabeth, sister to our Mary Ann, married John C. Etheridge, brother to our Edmund. The same source lists William J’s father who seems to have been another William Shinholster who was born in South Carolina and his wife was Sophia Hiles.
