... Henry Hobbs, only surviving son of Henry and Hannah (Canney) Hobbs, had acquired a wife, Mary, by 2 Mar. 1704, when he had a daughter, Hannah Hobbs, born by her. Lieut. Remick states that his unknown wife Mary was a Mary Sheldon, but gives no authority for this assertion.
The inventory of the personal estate of Henry Hobbs of Dover, 26 Nov. 1724, amounted to about £10; administration on his estate was granted, 2 Dec. 1724, to the widow, Mary Hobbs, who signed the bond [in blank] with Eleazer Weare and Nathaniel Perkins, as her bondsmen. (N. H. Probate, 2.)
In connection with Jacob's second wife, we may note a deed dated 13 Nov. 1714, wherein Henry Hobbs of Dover, Planter, sells to Joseph Varney of same, twenty acres of land there, his wife, Mary Hobbs, releasing her dower rights in same; signed by the marks of Henry Hobbs, Hanah Hobbs, and Mary Remick; acknowledged by said Henry, 12 Mar. 1716; recorded 7 May 1735.* (N.
