Mary Sophie Shaw Rogers Homes was a poet and novelist born in Frederick City, Maryland. She was the daughter of Thomas Shaw, and upon his death, the family moved to New Orleans. She married Norman Rodgers, who died soon afterward, and then married Luther Homes in 1864. Mary began writing in 1857 as a contributor of poems, essays, and articles for the New Orleans Daily Crescent, and also wrote for the New Orleans True Delta. Works: Carrie Harrington or Scenes in New Orleans. New York: Atchison, 1857. Progression, or the South Defended. Cincinnati: Appletage & Co., 1860. A Wreath of Rhymes. Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott & Co., 1869. She the same Mary Rogers found residing with Luther, Hanette and children in the 1850 New Orleans Census., and, named in their divorce proceedings a few years later.
