Inscription
SCARED
to the memory of
MARY ANN the second wife of
JOHN C. WILSON Jun r. and daughter of
William burton Savage ESQ r
of Cherry Grove Northampton Co.
Virginia, where she was born June 10th
1796 and departed this life at Arlington
in Somerset Co. Md. Sept r. 27th, 1820.
In here 25th year.
Thy gentle spirit now is fled
Thy body in its earthly bed
Is laid in peaceful sleep;
A spirit good and pure as thine
Best in immortal scenes can shine,
Though friends are left to weep.
An infant son the perfect image of his mother
baptized William Gilmor; and aged 2 months
5 days repoeses with her beneath this Tomb
This flower that droop’d in one cold clime
Transplanted from the soil of time
To immortality
In full perfection there shall bloom
And those who now lament his doom
Must bow to GOD’S deeree.
The bereaved and afflicted husband
and father offers this tribute.
