BIOGRAPHY: According to Mary Frances Knight Selden, (Mary Riffle's granddaughter), before her marriage to Ira, Mary was married at age 16 to a man named Penick in Wooster, Ohio. She became pregnant, but lost both the baby and her husband in a small pox epidemic.

Jim Penick was Mary's deceased husband's brother. He eventually moved to Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where George and Fran Selden lived. They kept in touch with each other for many years.
