    "Phelps, … Mary, 2nd d. Timothy, b. July 7, 1711 [TM2:30]"

  2. Both Stiles' "Ancient Windsor" and the Phelps genealogy assert that the Mary Phelps who married Samuel Brown at Windsor in 1730 was born at Simsbury in 1711 (and thus daughter of Timothy Phelps b. 1671, son of Joseph Phelps b. abt. 1629, son of the settler, William Phelps) and died 1755 which would indicate that she was age 43/44 at death. The inscription on the gravestone of Mary Phelps Brown says she died 1755, in 49th year, which would have her born c. 1706. A different Mary Phelps, daughter of Enoch b. 1675, son of John b. 1651, son of the settler, George Phelps) was born 1706. The fact that Enoch Phelps' estate was administered in 1750 by one Samuel Brown strongly indicates that Enoch's daughter, not Timothy's, was the Mary Phelps who married Samuel Brown of Windsor. One complicating factor in analyzing the above is that another Mary Phelps married, also in 1730, one Samuel Stiles, also of Windsor. According to the Windsor church records, she died a widow in 1799, Æ 93 which would have her also born 1706. The fact of Samuel Brown's executorship and Mary Phelps Stiles' age at death is less likely to be accurate than the 1755 gravestone for Mary Phelps Brown points to Mary Phelps Brown being the daughter of Enoch, not Timothy. There is also one source which states that Samuel Stiles married Mary Phelps, daughter of Benjamin and Hannah (Birge) Phelps, born 1706. She is more likely the wife of Samuel Stiles than the Mary born 1711.
