    "160. … Mary (Phelps), b. Windsor Ct. 8 June, 1689, m. 6 June 1709, Matthew Griswold, son of Joseph2 and Mary (Gaylord) Griswold … settled in Windsor, Ct., where they both died."

    Henry Hallock Hosford, in Ye Horseforde Booke, states that this Mary died young and a second Mary, born 1703, married Matthew Griswold. Since Matthew Griswold married one Mary Phelps in 1709, this construction is clearly impossible.
