THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Iowa, February 1, 1945. "MARY HELEN BEAL DIED THIS MORNING AT AMES HOSPITAL. - Mary Helen Beal, wife of Harvey Beal of northeast of Maxwell, died at the Mary Greeley hosptila in Ames about six o'clock this morning. She had been taken ill last night and this morning was taken to the hospital in the Cooper ambulance and was in the receiving room when she suddenly passed away. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Oxley of near Maxwell. Guneral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church in Maxwell with the Rev. Stanley Mahannah officiating. Burial will be in the Peoria cemetery. The deceased, who was but 22 years of age is survivied by her husband, by her parents and by her brothers, Curtis of Des Moines and John of Maxwell, and her sisters, Corinne of Des Moines, Maxine and Alyce Jean at home."

“FUNERAL RITES FOR MARY HELEN BEAL HELD SUNDAY. - Maxwell, Feb. 8, Funeral rites for Mary Helen Beal, 22, wife of Harvey Beal, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Church of Christ with the pastor the Rev. Stanley Mahannah, officiating. Rev. J. D. Brower read the scripture and followed with prayer. A male quartette composed of Clark John, Arnold Scott, O. O. Holtby and Dorus Myers sang two hymns, “Abide With Me,” and “Ivory Palaces.: Mrs. Ray Gooden, soloist, sang “There’ll Be No Tears in Paradise”, with Mrs. Ned A. Nearson accompanist. Casket bearers were Curtis Bowen, Dean Howell, Fay Rupp, Vernon Bell, J. J. Viers, and John Perzell. Many beautiful floral tributes banked the front of the church, testifying to the sincere sympathy extended the families in the loss of their loved one and to the esteem in which she was held. The flowers were arranged and carried by Violet Byers, Maxine Viers, Kathleen Bell, and Nellie Rupp. Interment was in the Peoria Cemetery. Rev. Mahannah read the following brief life sketch: Mary Helen Oxley was born October 14, 1923, and departed from this life February 1, 1945, at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, Iowa. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Oxley and a graduate of the Maxwell High School and American Institute of Business. In 1942 she accepted a position in Washington, D. C., with the government and later worked at the Des Moines Ordnance plant. Mary Helen, was born on her mother’s birthday, was a home lover and reflected her mothers pleasing and thoughtful personality. To her many friends she will long be remembered in helping achieve victories in school athletic contests. Her kindness and thoughtfulness towards others made her a cherished friend to those who knew her. She was also very active in music and church activities in connection with the Peoria Church. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Harvey W. Beal; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Oxley; two brothers, Curtis and John; three sisters, Corrine, Maxine and Alyce Jean; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Oxley of Maxwell and Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Cooper of Wisconsin; and other relatives and friends. A brother, Robert, preceded her in death in 1941.”
