{geni:about_me} Mary Murphy, affectionaly known as "Mae" or "Nana" was the oldest of 13 children, born in NYC. Both parents died within months of each other, and the children were placed for adoption. Nana was 13 yrs old, and managed not to be taken by the social service, living in rented rooms and working in factories. The siblings consisted of three sets of twins, one of which died at birth. Nana spent her entire lifetime searching for her brothers and sisters. She did reunite with Jimmy and Anna whom she raised, Margaret who was living in Chicago with a husband and two sons, and another sister that was raised in France, but was residing a block away from where she presently lived. One set of twin boys were taken to California, but she never was able to find them. Nana worked at the Federal Court House in NYC, and befriended a NYC Journal American newspaper reporter, who would do a human interest story about her search for her family every couple of years. Her deep devotion to her daughter Marion, and her grand children kept Nana busy after she retired.

Nana's death cert. dated 6/29/1971 has mother's maiden name as Hammond, Margaret(Maggie)

have found two certificates, from St. Columba Church 343 West 25th Street, NY. both have parents names as James Murphy, & Maggie Hannon, date of birth August 11th, 1892 Sponsor was Maggie Noonan dated and sealed July 6th 1956 Baptized on August 28th, 1892. the second cert. is dated August 12th 1932, different birth date of August 9th 1893 and baptized on August 26th 1893.

marriage certificate for Mary Murphy and William Scully Feb.21, 1926 at St. Columba Church, witenessed by Thomas Mc Caffrey and Helen Mc Namarra dated and sealed August 15th, 1932

death certificate #409007 NYC Dept. of Records June 25th, 1971 age 78, also has August 9th, l892 as birth date.

baptism cert. for daughter Marion Grabutt at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 262 West 118th St, NYC on August 17th 1913, George Garbutt father and James Raschle & Sarah Synder are sponsers, dated and sealed August 24, 1954.
