Mary Elizabeth Riggins, 81, Shelbyville, died Wednesday at Heritage Manor.
Born on July 14, 1916, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Olin and Lelia (Laughner) Morrison.
On June 10, 1939, she married Robert Westfall Riggins, who preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1986.
Mrs. Riggins was a Shelby County resident for the past 11 years, living most of her life in Indianapolis.
She was a homemaker and secretary to the Alpha Xi Delta sorority at the national headquarters in Indianapolis. She also had worked at Morrison Grocery in Indianapolis.
She originated the high school program for volunteers at Central State Hospital in Indianapolis. Mrs. Riggins was a volunteer leader with the Girl Scouts and attended the First Christian Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. James (Mary Lou) Hughes, Brookville, and Mrs. James (Susie) Peters and Mrs. Joe (Nancy) Wallace, both of Shelbyville; and nine grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home, Shelbyville.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Dr. A.W. Farnsworth IV and the Rev. James Horner officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.
