Mary Ann Moles was baptised on 23rd March 1856 at Willian in Hertfordshire, daughter of a straw plaiter named Hannah Moles, formerly Walker, and her husband Thomas Moles, an agricultural labourer. She was the couple's eldest child, being baptised just over nine months after their marriage.

Mary appears in both the 1861 and 1871 censuses living with her parents and siblings at Willian. She has yet to be researched after 1871.
