Facts and Events
Known as Mollie. Daughter of Rev. and Mrs. T.B. McComb, Baptist minister and Van Alstyne pioneer. Mollie was 7 years old when she came to Texas with her parents. She joined the Baptist church at the age of 12. Mollie received her first education from her father, attending school in a log house in the Hackberry community near Van Alstyne. She also attended school at Farmington and at the Baptist Institute on Sandy Creek, ten miles north of Bonham. Mollie's father went to Jefferson each spring when he knew the shipments had arrived there. It took 3 weeks to go and 3 weeks to return. On one of these trips he bought 10 yards of jackonette material for Mollie's wedding dress. People for miles around were invited to come and stay overnight for the wedding. Much elaborate preparations were made and an abundance of food was prepared. Information taken from "History of Grayson County, Texas" Vol II and from articles from the Van Alstyne library References
