Mary Martin was born and baptised on 18th February 1789 at Market Harborough in Leicestershire, daughter of Alice Martin, formerly Rampkin, and her husband Henry Martin, a joiner.

On 10th April 1814, aged 25, Mary married Daniel Goodman at Lathbury in Buckinghamshire, over thirty miles south of Market Harborough. They do not appear to have had any children. At the time of their marriage Daniel was described as both a labourer and yeoman, and he later became a corn factor.

Both the 1841 and 1851 censuses find Mary and Daniel living in the town of Newport Pagnell, just south of Lathbury. In both censuses they had a servant living with them, whilst in 1841 they also had a Thomas Martin living with them, who was presumably a relative of Mary's. They lived in the Tickford Street / Tickford End area of Newport Pagnell.

Mary died on 10th March 1852, aged 63. Daniel survived her by just four days.

    Baptized: Feb[ruar]y 18th [1789]

This baptism has been linked to the Mary Martin who married Daniel Goodman on the basis that in the 1851 census she indicated that she was born around 1789 at Market Harborough, and Daniel's will refers to her as having a brother called Henry and sisters called Alice and Sarah. This Mary baptised in 1789 had a sister called Alice baptised in 1790, brother Henry baptised in 1792 and sister Sarah baptised in 1796, all at Market Harborough.
