Mrs. Spieker died of cancer Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 in her home surrounded by family. Mrs. Spieker was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Wade Lea and Alma Horsey Lea. She lived in several different countries, including Somalia, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Saudi Arabia until resettling in Dover, where she lived for the past seven years. Mrs. Spieker worked at the Dover Newsstand for the past year and a half. She was a warm and sociable person and will be sadly missed by friends and acquaintances that often visited the newsstand. Mrs. Spieker gave much of her time throughout the years as a Red Cross volunteer and was an active participant in American Legion Auxiliary affairs in several places where she lived. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. Col. John M. Martin, a pilot first listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War and later declared killed in action in 1974. She is survived by her husband, David W. Spieker of Dover; four daughters and a son-in-law, Dr. Jessie Martin and Robert Ward of Erie, Pa., Cindy Wayson of Valdosta, Ga., Kathy Martin of Dover and Pat Martin of Byrdstown, Tenn.; a son and daughter-in-law, John M. Martin Jr. and Debbie Martin of Dover; and 10 grandchildren, Jessica Ward and Jonathan Ward, both of Erie, Aaron Wayson, Jordan Wayson, Jesse Wayson, Sarah Wayson and Hannah Wayson, all of Valdosta, and Derrick Martin, John Martin and Heather Martin, all of Dover. Irene told Tess that Jessie had called her to tell her that Tina died Monday Feb 18. I found the following in the Dover Post on the net. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Laurel. The family suggests contributions to the American Red Cross, 263 Chad St., Dover Air Force Base, DE 19902; or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reeds Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720. References
