    A sudden death, under very painful circumstances, took place at the foot of Nelson Creek on Thursday, 16th inst. Mrs Ross, the wife of Mr J. W. Ross, hotelkeeper and baker, of that place, was taken ill at 10 o'clock p.m. At midnight she was delivered of a still-born child, but the unfortunate woman died immediately afterwards. An inquest was held by the coroner yesterday.

Joseph Pitts and Joseph Pickup were brought up on remand charged with stealing gold from the person of Samuel Holdsworth, at Eoss's Hotel, foot of Nelson Creek. Mary Ross : I am the wife of John Ross, publican, at the foot of Nelson Creek. I remember Sunday, the 15th day of May last. I saw the prisoner Pitts and Pickup at our house on that day.
