Mary Barth, 89, formerly of St. Charles, passed away peacefully Monday, March 19, 2012, at Woodcrest at Blakeford Nursing Center in Nashville. She was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Lebanon, Ind., the daughter of Clarence and Audra (nee Laughner) Hull. She was united in marriage to William Barth on May 13, 1944, in Joplin, Mo.
Mary took great pride in being a loving wife and mother, a giving neighbor and friend. Her deep faith and Christian beliefs guided and grounded her throughout her life, even in her darkest hours. Over the years, she was very involved in her children's lives, including being a Girl Scout Leader, school volunteer, and attending virtually all of their after-school activities. She was also a hospital volunteer and district president in United Methodist Women, often working tirelessly behind the scenes to make St. Charles, her community, a better place to live.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Wayne) Copeland of Mt. Morris, and Douglas (Linda) Barth of Brentwood, Tenn.; grandchildren, Chad Copeland, Jennifer (Chris) Shaffer, John (Amy) Copeland, Jake Copeland, Lauren (Andy) Woods, and Michelle Barth; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene (Nancy) Hull of Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third St. (three blocks west of the river and one block south of Route 64) in St. Charles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St., in Geneva, where she will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. The Rev. William Obalil will officiate. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in St. Charles.
