More Info...

I was happy to find that the Oakland Library keeps very old death records,

and found your Mary's death record there!  :)
It says she died December 22, 1898 and was buried on December 24, 1898 at
the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in San Francisco. She was 52 years old, 0 months,

and

16 days. She was born in Buffalo, New York. She had been a California
resident for 34 years. She died at Fabiola Hospital in Oakland, due to
chronic emphysema and paralysis of the pneumogastric nerve. Her doctor

was

Susan J. Fenton.
That's all the information it gave. I looked in both Oakland newspapers,
but apparently in those years there was no obituary column, so I wasn't

able

to find any other information about her. I did find her husband listed in
the Oakland Directory from 1896 on. It gave his dental office address and
his residence address, which changed from 304 26th, to 304 Bay Place to

36th

near Grove to 677 36th. The office location was 1016 Clay Street

(downtown

Oakland).

( Eugene is the youngest son of Mary Herrmann and Charles E. Lancaster.)

I was able to find the obituary for Eugene Lancaster:
In Oakland, December 7, 1949. Eugene Lancaster, beloved husband of Doris

N.

Lancaster; father of Mrs. Betty J. Peoples; grandfather of Robert Wayne

and

Rodger Alan Peoples. a native of California; aged 61 years; a member of
Dimond Post No. 479, American Legion.
Friends are invited to attend the services at the E. 14th St. Chapel of

the

Grant D. Miller Mortuaries, Inc., 2372 E. 14th Street, Friday, December 9,
1949, at 1 o'clock pm. Inurment, Chapel of the Chimes.
