Traveled to Rochester for another reception to be held in the potato barn at her mother-in-law and step father-in-law's farm. Traveled from Missouri to New York and in car with mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and young cousin RoseMary. Mary was an outstanding person who was always filled with upbeat thoughts. She was very close to her children and grandchildren. She came from a large family and lost at least one sister to cancer. Mary continued to battle cancer with chemotherapy treatments. She was a survivor and did it with grace, dignity, and a smile. She was an incredible individual. Obituary: Mary E. Stadler, 81, Kansas City, MO, passed away May 14, 2004, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO, where a scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Institute GYN Oncology program c/o St. Luke's Hospital Foundation or Odyssey Hospice. Mary was born February 15, 1923, in Scammon, (Cherokee County) KS, to Patrick Joseph and Mary (Kierl) Grant. She grew up in the small town and arrived in Kansas City to attend school at St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with honors in 1947. She spent much of her adult life as a homemaker, but volunteering was always a large part of her life. Mary worked part time as an RN at Baptist Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital and retired in 1985, when her husband became ill. Mary was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the STM Ladies, the Ladies of charity of K.C. and worked with Seton Center and STM Grief Group and for many years with Kansas city Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Stadler and daughter, Christine (Stadler) Payne. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Robert, James and Bernard Grant; three sisters, Wilma Powers, Colleen Jenkins and Patricia Thompson. She is survived by two sons, John G of Louisville, CO, Patrick J of Kansas City, MO; daughters, Mary E Hunter of Kansas City, MO, and Teresa M. Teefey and her husband, John of Lawrence, KS; four grandsons, Daniel, Hunter, Chris, Brian and David Teefey; a granddaughter, Emily Teefey; brother, Lawrence Grant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
