    Mary Harriet born July 26th 1841.
    [Note: the year of birth is confusing. The last digit is either "1." (one, period), or "6", or improbably "4". Allred, p. 121, says 1844, but that is the least likely case and is not supported in any way by various records. July 1846 would be 12 months after her father died, so can be ruled out. The 1850 census appears to give age 4 in agreement with 1846, but it would also be construed as an eight, consisent with 1842. The other records, such as death, marriage, and other censuses seems to say 1842 (one census works out to 1843). Therefore, the 1841 intrepretation of the birth year seems most correct. This is given in Source:Gale, Linn A. E. Genealogy of the Descendants of David Gale of Sutton, Mass, p. 39, which says "born 1841" (the style of prose suggesting it is based on a correspondent's famiy summary).]
