Notes for MARY MAGDALENE FOGLESONG: The following letter written to Dennis Snapp & others provides some evidence that Mary Foglesong "may" have been the daughter of either George Vogelgesang or his brother, Christian Vogelgesang (Fogelsong).

May 1, 1998

Dear Dennis, Robert and Ginger,

There are a lot of researchers more knowledgeable and experienced than I, but to use "nothing more is known" of Mary Foglesong does her an injustice.

George Vogelgesang came to America in 1761 and settled in Frederick Co. near the town of Stephensburg. George bought lot no. 66 in the town and lots 59 and 135 adjoining.* George Fogelsgesong's will recorded October 6, 1773 at Stephensburg gave wife Catherine lots 65 and 66 and divided money equally between sons and daughters "after all reach of aae." One of the subscribers was Lawrence Stephens.

Lewis Stephens and wife Mary sold lot 14 in Stephensburg to Christian Voglesong in 1761. The will of Christian Fogelsong of Stephensburg approved May 6, 1777 made bequeathes to sister-inlaw Catherine Fogelsong and to the children of the said Catherine and lot 14 in Stephensburg to John Marberger. When John Marberger sold lot 14 it was acknowledged that Christian bought the lot from Lewis Stephens.

Abraham Snapp was born in 1762 and if Mary was born around that time she would have been underage at the time of both wills.

Jacob Fogelsong's will dated August 1, 1802 in Shenandoah County mentioned brothers and sisters (not named), a lot in Stephensburg "that I had from my father's estate." Philip Windle was executor and David Windle was a witness.

Windles married into the Snapp family.

This is circumstantial evidence but it seems to be as much evidence as Lawrence Snapp marrying Margaret Stephens, daughter of Peter and Maria Christina Stephens.

At least the researchers could say this "could be her family." What do you think? Let me hear from you. Lila. (Lila Henson)
