Some people apparently misread this as 38, and hence misreport the birth date as 1676, which causes unlikely gaps in child spacing, and is probably a date when Robert had no wife. Apparently, this is due to the texture of the stone face, but close inspection makes clear the heavier line of the 5 versus the shadow of the curving scratch in the stone face that cuts through the 5 and angles towards the Y in YEARS.
