Note that the above child list matches tolerably well with the child list given in the will of person:Robert Houston (1). Robert included bequests to sons Samuel and James, and they are missing here. These sons may have predeceased their mother, but this needs to be verified.

Esther, who has died by this date, apparently left heirs, implying that she had married. Quite possibly she is the Esther Houston, the first wife of James son of Samuel son of John the immigrant.

Caution

Mary is commonly identified as "Margaret" basedon Source:Houston, 1882. The wills of her husband Person:Robert Houston (1), as well as her mother and father, as well as her hown will, consistently identify her as "Mary Huston". Margaret is interpreted as an error in Source:Houston, 1882

Notes

Mary Davidson has been misidentified as a daughter of Samuel Davidson, but based upon the following, it appears that she is a daughter of Robert Davidson, who named his daughter, Mary HOUSTON in his will of 1751:

Mary Davidson was named in the will of her husband, Robert Houston in 1760, who apparently pre-deceased her.

Also Chalkely gives the will of Robert Davidson, dated January 10. 1751, in which mention is made of wife. Ann, son John and daughter Mary Houston.

While the Houston Genealogy by Rev. S. R. Houston gives the name of Robert! Honston's wife as Margaret Davidson, daughter of Samuel Davidson and Ann Dunlap, the records above indicate that her name was Mary Davidson and that she was a dauighter of Robert and not Samuel Davidson.
