birth parents: Thomas Collins and Sarah Unknown DEATH: Information on birth and death is taken from: _Delaware a Guide to the First State_ compiled and written by the Federal Writers DEATH: Projct of the WPA for the State of Delaware. DEATH: According to the book the inscription on the tombstone reads: "In memory of Mary Barker, wife of Joseph Barker and eldest DEATH: daughter of His excellency, Thomas Collins, Esquire, late Governor (sic) of the State of Delaware, who departed this life the DEATH: 27th of December, 1795 aged 30 years, 7 months and 2 days. Her death was occaisioned by taking Peruvian bark, adulterated by DEATH: litharge, which was purchased at an apothecary in Wilmington." DEATH: Peruvian bark was a treatment for malaria and litharge is lead monoxide. |
