The following was written by Jack Taylor in 2005, Mary Ann's Great-grand nephew.: Visit to “Aunt Mary Ann’s” (my great grandmother Esther Clark Smart’s sister): We went to Wendell, MA, to look for information about the farm where Mary Ann Clark and Chester Clark (sister and brother) lived. Luckily, the library was open and had a drawer of old maps. The first one was for 1871, and showed C. Clark as living on what now is the New Salem Road, about 2 miles from Wendell Depot Road. The librarians knew Karen who now lives there and called the post office to find Karen’s house number, 96. We then drove that road and found #96, and could see that there might have been a farm there. The house looked too new and the land was grown up with trees, as was much of the surrounding area, but with stone walls indicating that it had been farmed long ago. Since this farm was only about 5 miles from the Wendell Depot, I surmise that Fannie Smart Follansbee traveled there from Athol and from Leominster by train, and was met at the station and driven by horse and buggy to Aunt Mary Ann’s. The picture taken there is undated, but my mother had a camera in the 1920’s and 1930’s, so it probably dates from the 1920’s.
