died single [UL:The Record of the Chivvis Family:UL] p.7and Record of the Chivvis Family, 1746. [4 pages per 8.5x11 sheet] p.9: "Mary Chivvis, grandfatherʾs second daughter was an excellent Christian lady. She was industrious, benevolent and kind-hearted toward all. Her brothers and sisters and, indeed, all her relations, acted toward her as one distinguished among them. When young she suffered from yellow fever, and either the medicine or fever affected one of her limbs, which rendered her a cripple for life. Grandfather had the best of care taken of her and never allowed her to be exposed to hardships of any kind, or any of her wishes neglected, if it were possible to gratify them. I think she felt the changes in her circumstances very muchy. She used to say, "If I could only lease the house father owned, I should be so contented to live there." Yet she did not murmor [sic] or find fault. Always pleasant with the friends. [sic] In the parlor of an evening with company that frequently called to see the family she took as lively a part in the conversations as one might wish, and all respected her highly. As I remember her, I think she must have been a talented and interesting woman."
