Mary "Polly" Butler is the wife of Alexander S. Puryear. They had at least four children; Porteus, born 1839; Mary A., born 1845; Solomon S., born 1847 in Grandville, North Carolina but found in the 1860 census of Macon Co. N.C. at the age of 13; and James R., born 1850.

Solomon S Puryear married Elizabeth "Betty" Tate and had four daughters: Mary Ada Puryear (born 1876 in Stevenson/Scottsboro, Jackson Co., Alabama) who married Linnville Andrews Dugger; and Amy, Minnie and Carrie Puryear.
