Ms. Weston, This is in reply to your recent email regarding your Bowden/Boyle family research. Please visit the website of the Public Archives and Records Office at http://www2.gov.pe.ca/educ/archives/archives_index.asp for information about our holdings including genealogical sources. Due to the volume of requests we receive, the ever-increasing numbers of visiting researchers and other staff archival duties, we are unable to provide extensive and on-going research services. We can attempt to answer a specific question or two for which there is no charge except for photocopies provided. A list of private researchers is also available should you require further research. You may also want to visit The Island Register genealogy website which includes a great deal of information regarding Prince Edward Island families. The URL is http://www.islandregister.com. I began the search for your family history by looking in our 'Baptisms Prior to 1886' index. I found the baptismal reference for the following children of Mary Ann Bowden and Ambrose Boyle: 1. Matilda Born 8 September 1854 in Lot 12 Anglican Church, Port Hill 2. Ambrose Born 5 May 1859 in Lot 12 Anglican Church, Port Hill 3. Elizabeth Born 3 November 1845 in Lot 11 Church of England, Richmond (Father is listed as 'Ambrose Roy C.') 4. Ellen Maria Born in September 1862 in Lot 12 Anglican Church, Port Hill 5. Isaac Born in January 1852 in Lot 11 Anglican Church, Port Hill 6. Jane Born 18 October 1856 in Lot 11 Anglican Church, Port Hill 7. Judith 25 March 1850 in Lot 11 Anglican Church, Port Hill 8. Robert Born 17 May 1862 in Lot 11 Anglican Church, Port Hill 9. Sarah Jane Born 4 August 1848 in Lot 11 Anglican Church, Port Hill I am not sure if you already had this information. I f you do, I apologize. Have you seen the book entitled Along the North Shore by J. Clinton Morrison? In this book there is a detailed description of the family of Mary Ann and Ambrose, as well as a picture of Mary Ann, but no more information about her except that she was born in England in 1817 and died in 1905. If you would like photocopies of it, we are able to provide you with them. I also came across reference to their wedding: Mary Ann Bowden married Ambrose Boyle on the 20 July 1842. Witnesses were Thomas Boyle and Arthur Boyle As to discovering the names of Mary Ann Bowden's parents, If you know the general area in England that she came from, I could do a quick check of the IGI (International Genealogical Index) for you. In our 'Master Name Index' I discovered a few items of interest. There was an Anne Bowden listed in the 1881 census that was seventy-five years of age and lived in Lot 10. She was born in England and belonged to the Church of England. This Annie Bowden, I believe was 'Annie Bold, was married to a John Bowden, who had children in the 1920s/30s (Rhonda, 13 July 1829, Gwn., 7 August 1834, John Joseph, 22 January 1837. This John may have been relation to Mary Ann. I came across a newspaper reference for the death of this John Bowden who died on the 3 February 1867 at 75 years. In this reference it said that John was a native of Davenport, England. I then came across a reference for an Elizabeth Bowden, wife of Sergt. John?/Tom? Bowden, who died on the 31 August 1822 at the age of thirty-five. This couple are the earliest references to Bowden's on PEI. I am sorry I could not give you more concrete answers at this time, but I wish you the best with your continued research. Sincerely, Juanita Rossiter Project Archivist Public Archives and Records Office of Prince Edward Island P.O. Box 1000 Charlottetown, PE C1A 7M4

JAMES BOWDEN born Abt 1805 in Bristol, Somerset, married FRANCES BABB on 20th December 1826 in Bedminster, Bristol. I have loads of info on Frances, and none at all on James. They had 10 children and I know the details on 3 of them. I am hoping to find the rest, and the family/siblings of James in particular. I found James and Frances and family in the 1851 census, and found her in 1881 census. Anyone looking for William T Bowden - 1829 Elizabeth Bowden - 1831 Mary A. Bowden - 1833 Alfred G.
