(By Eunice Rhodes) I have not searched for the Bartlett family, if anyone is interested I will list some names I came across while searching for others. From land records, Stoddard Co,. Mo., Ann Eliza Bartlett; Adaline Bartlett; Clarissa Bartlett; Orson Eugene Bartlett; and Samuel J. Bartlett. Orsons name appeared with Jesse Liggett's a number of times. From Grand Prairie Twp. New Madrid Co., Mo. there were mentions of Jesse Bartlett and wife Lucinda in 1813 and 1814. A John Bartlett was mentioned with several Liggett names in 1840.
The following Bartletts were mentioned in the New Madrid records from 1817 to 1847: Thomas; Robert; May Ann; Ina Nancy; Catherine and Eleanor. One item dated August 12, 1819 mentioned that they were all from Harrison Co. State of Virginia.
Aunt Bertha Williams said that the Bartletts came from Virginia City, Virginia or West Virginia. Also that Mary L. Bartlett Rhoades had a brother Billy, who had two children, Jesse and Mary and they lived at Conrad, Mo. Someone else said they lived at Bernie, Mo.

  1. OBITUARY COPIED FROM NEWSPAPER CLIPPING BERTHA WILLIAMS SENT EUNICE RHODES (Probably an Advance, MO paper)
Mrs. Mary L. Rhodes, nee Bartlett, was born Oct. 9 1846. Losing both her parents at a very tender age she was reared by other hands, not knowing the love of a parent.
At a very early date in her life she professed faith in Christ and joined the M. E. Church South. Her membership was for some time at Old Piketon, in Stoddard County, but for a number of years passed it has been in our church in Advance, Mo.
On Aug. 7 1864 she was married to F. M. Rhodes, who afterwards became a minister of the Methodist Church.
To this union were born ten children. Six of these are still living.
Sister Rhodes was permitted to remain with her children until all those living were settled in life. Her interest in them never seemed to abate even a little.
Her health had not been good for some time and much apprehension was felt when it was found that she had pneumonia. Many felt that she would be unequal to the strain. She also realized the serious nature of her illness but said she was ready to go if it should be the Lord's will. As the time passed and she grew weaker her desire to be free seemed to increase until she finally became anxious to go.
On Tuesday morning, Feb. 13 1912, at 11 o'clock a.m. her summons came and she passed over to meet her husband and four children, and many friends who were waiting for her in the Celestial City.
Her long life of service and helpfulness has left it's fragrance among us. In the Great Day many will rise up to call her blessed.
May the Lord bind up the broken hearts that are left and help us all so to live that we may meet her in that Home above.

Buried in Pleasant HIll Cemetery, Stoddard County, MO.
