Source:Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, United States. Town Records of Derby, Connecticut, 1655-1710, p. 276 and 294, lists respectively the birth and death of Hezekiah, each time following that of his sister Mary:
Mary daughter of Josiah & Mary Baldwin was born oct. 11th ---
Mary daughter of Josiah and Mary Baldwin desesed October 28th 170-
This last source appears to be an actual transcription, but the surrounding dates follow no pattern that give any useful context. Most of the births have incomplete years, a few lines above the only readable years are 1704 and 1704-5. The deaths are sandwiched between deaths in 1703/4 and 1707 (brother Jared being 3 lines down).
With one birth in Aug, and one in Oct., clearly Mary and Hezekiah are not twins. Therefore not born the same year. Did not die in the same month, so probably not some epidemic, so did not necessarily die the same year. Mary is listed immediately before Hezekiah for both the births and the deaths, presumably the older of the two.
No gravestone or other source has been found. The Baldwin Genealogy's use of 1703 is distrusted for various reasons: no other reporter seemed to be able to read it, it compresses the three children's births (including older child Josiah b. 1701) into a span of two years and leaves a gap of four years until the next child (Jared in 1707), the context of the transcription suggests these events were recorded 1705 or later, and a barely legible '3' looks very similar to '2', '5', and '8'.
It is striking that both Mary's birth and death are in Oct, while both Hezekiah's birth and death are in August. It may not be, but seems probable both died weeks after birth.
Considering all that, and constrained by Josiah in 1701 and Jared in 1707, it seems probable that Mary born and died in 1703 and Hezekiah born and died in 1705. This is speculation, of course.
