Mary Allison's origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 20th February 1709 when she married a labourer called William Allen at Grantham in Lincolnshire. He was a widower from the village of Kirkby la Thorpe. Mary and William settled in Kirkby la Thorpe after their marriage, having one son baptised there in 1713.

William died in 1720. Mary survived him by seven years. She was buried at Kirkby la Thorpe on 1st October 1727.
