Mary Catherine Clupper, 99, formerly of Van Buren, IN, passed away at 8:37 PM on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Heritage Pointe in Warren, IN. She was born on Friday, May 1, 1914, in Van Buren Township, the Daughter of the Late George Danal and Sarah Viola (Jacobson) Akers. Mrs. Clupper was a lifetime resident of Van Buren Township, Grant county. She graduated from the Van Buren High School, Van Buren, IN and then from Marion Normal College, Marion, IN. She Maried Francis B. Clupper on February 6, 1938, Mr. Clupper passed away in 1995. Mrs. Clupper was a teacher all of her life starting at Emmerson Grade School then Town Clock Grade School then McCulloch Jr. High all in Marion. Mrs. Clupper then taught for 26 years at Van Buren Elementary School in Van Buren before retiring in 1963. Mrs. Clupper was a member of the Van Buren Library Board for many years. She served on the Eastbrook School Board where she was a past President, as well as the first woman in Grant County to serve on a School Board. Mrs. Clupper was also a member of the Van Buren Book Club, Van Buren, IN. Survivors include: Son - George F. (Donna) Clupper, Van Buren, IN, 2 Granddaughters - Debra (Kevin) Kuhn, Tipton, IN, and Christine (Darryl) Brane, Van Buren, IN, 2 Grandsons - Michael G. (Monique) Clupper, Zionsville, IN, and Scott A. (Stacy) Clupper, Van Buren, IN, 12 Great Grandchildren – Jacob, Evan, Ethan, Jaren and Weston Clupper, Kurtis and David (Emily) Kuhn, Danielle and Dylan Sorenson, Trevor and Seth Brane and Darby Tanner. Mary was preceded in death by her: Father - George Danal Akers, Mother - Sarah Viola (Jacobson) Akers, Husband - Francis B. Clupper, Brother - George Akers. Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home 201 N Main Street Van Buren on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A service to celebrate Mary's life will be at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 10, 2013 with Chaplain Ginny Soultz officiating. Interment will follow in the Van Buren Cemetery in Van Buren.
