Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. X, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Petry, Martin, born 1 January 1757 in Orange County, Virginia, where entered service i777 in Virginia regiment; soldier's family resided in Rockingham County, Virginia 1781 with whom soldier's wife stayed during soldier's service; soldier moved to Rockingham County, Virginia in 1785 for abt. 8 years, thence to Montgomery County, Virginia for abt. 9 years, then to Giles County (area later Fayette County), Virginia where pensioned latter County 1832 when resided there abt. 20 years; soldier illiterate; Gibson Jarrell, Joseph Harper & William Blake made affidavits there then; John Rains made affidavit there in 1834 that he knew soldier in 1781 & served with him in Revolutionary War per County Justices of the Peace Joseph Harper & Oliver L. Waitt & County Clerk of Court Hiram Hill; soldier resided there 1835; Jacob Medors affidavit in Giles County, Virginia, then he knew soldier since early days, per that there then, per County Justice of the Peace William Keaton; Lewis Stover & John T. Clay affidavit then Fayette County, Virginia; soldier's surname spelled also Petrey. F-S17010, R1919.
