Facts and Events
Plenty of conflict within the information on Martin and his wives andchildren. Differences are: William Krumm's file shows him born 02 March 1697/98 and two wives: 1.Maria (no surname listed) but that she was also married to a guy namedJakob Schafer, and 2. Elizabeth Hack. No further information onElizabeth and no children listed by her. Carolyn Naas's file shows him married twice also: 1. Agnes Schaffer, b. 1682 he married her between 1705-1806 (now ifBill's birth date is correct that would mean Martin was 10 years oldwhen he married Agnes) 2. Maria (no surname given her either) but no information on if she wasmarried another time. Carolyn has eight children listed for the first wife, Agnes and Martin. Both these files have all the same children and dates on the marriage ofMartin and Maria Krumm. The dates of birth death on Maria match, as does the marriage dates forMaria and Martin in both files. Carolyn wrote this note to me concerning the differences: " I don't knowwhere Ken's brother got his information from, but it may have possiblybeen from the late Fessie Krumm Norr. She was a woman who had done alot of research on Krumms back in the 60's, maybe even 50's. She hadvisited my grandmother in Columbus among others. Her ancestor was fromThuringia, but she had been told that a great-uncle had settled inColumbus, and was trying to find out about him, which she never did asfar as I know. We corresponded back in 1980, and she sent meinformation she had compiled on our branch of Krumms which she hadobtained from a church secretary in Germany. I believe she might havebeen a member of the Mormon Church, or at least she had submitted herinformation to them at some point in time. All my German informationbeginning with Henry Krumm b. 1832, his half-siblings, parents, andancestors back to Jakob Krumm, I obtained in 1980 from: Ev. Stadt- undBezirks-Jugendpfarramt Reutlingen, Ev. Pfarramt Bronnweiler,Jugendpfarrer Joh. Brauchle, Im Weiler, 7410 Reutlingen 2, Germany. Mostof the information was identical to Fessie's except for two areas: theMartin Krumm you refer to with regard to his first wife and birth/deathdates, and the surname Kinzin was given to me for three women instead ofRenz that Fessie had. In corresponding with Fessie, we decided that theonly way to know for certain who Martin's first wife was and what hisbirth/death dates were, was to look at the actual records, which I neverdid. I always meant to do something about it, but guess I forgot aboutit. However, I generally use the information I received in 1980 fromGermany in my records. I appreciate the history information you sent. Ihad seen much of it in books, but we have to remember that informationis only as good as whoever provided it to the publishers. There aredifferences in some of the various articles. One has the Krummsarriving in Columbus about 1818 (if my memory serves me), when we knowthey came over in 1832 according to the German records. And anothermentions that both John and Gottlieb Krumm were '49ers searching forgold. John went to California in 1849, but Gottlieb didn't come out til1850, and died shortly after. There are letters that John had writtento his brother Martin in the Ohio Historical Library that are prettyinteresting." References
