Cousin Bill,I actually have more on Martins kids than I thought. Attached is a file of what I have. I have done a lot of work on Martin. I have one photo of him and his 2nd wife. If you would like to see it. Let me know and I will send it. There is another child that you dont know. His first child is Caroline. She did not make it to the 1880 census. Martin married Julia on his return from the Civil War. They had Caroline in NY. After the War there was a migration from Western NY to Michigan. Martin Joined it. He moved to Otisco Michigan and had 2 more kids there. My Grandmother Lena Laura and Edmond. They moved back before the 1880 census. After Julia passed away he remarried a widow named Anna Podgers Hummel. Martin made it to 84. I visited his grave last July and placed flowers. He is buried next to his 2nd wife Anna. And his daughter Lena is buried next to them. I also visited Cold Harbor Battlefield in Va in July. In the Charge at Cold Harbor Martins unit the 8TH NY lost 552 men in about 20 minutes. They charged over an open field for 3/4 of a mile to a dug in rebel line. Most of them never made it to the other side. Martin made it to the Rebel trenches and was wounded and captured. He was sent to The Richmond Hospital for prisoners. He stayed there for 2 months and then was paroled back to the North. He was first reported as Killed in action. On his return he was given one months leave to go home and heal up. He then rejoined his unit with the Army of Potomac under U.S. Grant. During my research of this battle. I have found that only those who made it in to the Rebel trenches were captured if still living. If you fell wounded on the battlefield you were on your own. There is a monument to the 8TH at Cold Harbor. Martins marker is very plain. Someday I might buy him a new one.If you know of any photos of any of this family. Please let me know.Photos are the biggest treasure in family history.Cousin Bob......
