  1.   About 2 miles upriver from the Mattaponi bridge on Rt. 360 was once the site of a King and Queen port town. Thomas Todd of Gloucester acquired land from Colonel Claiborne and John West in 1688 in what later became K&Q. Part of this tract became known as Todd's. There was a rolling road that carried tobacco to this town. Between 1738 and 1750 a bridge was built and the settlement became known as Todd's Bridge. There is an old house in this area called "Farmer's Mount" built by William Todd. This is all described in the book "Old Houses of King and Queen County Virginia," by Virginia D. Cox and Willie T. Weathers. Published in 1973, this book has recently been reprinted by the K&Q Historical Society.
